Sustainability, well-being and innovation are presented at Hábitat as a solution to hybrid spaces.

SEPTEMBER 2022 | 5 minutes
Hábitat Valencia 2022

Design has experienced an unmissable event at Feria Hábitat València. An environment in which designers and manufacturers have joined forces to show the new paths that are being explored from the point of view of design and innovation. And, in these new paths, there are values that are already essential in any project linked to spaces: sustainability, wellbeing and versatility. And all of this is linked to the sensations generated by these spaces, whether physical or digital.

In this sense, Actiu's proposal has been closely linked to this physical-digital duality, to this new hybrid reality that is becoming increasingly established. Thus, the brand has been presented in Valencia in two totally different spaces, but capable of dialogue and of nourishing each other.

Two spaces have conveyed this philosophy of a hybrid world: on the one hand the stand designed by Isern Serra and on the other the infinity room co-designed by Isern Serra and Alba de la Fuente. Both spaces were built by Cosin Estudio. The stand, composed of comfortable and functional areas linked to the field of hospitality, and the Infinity Room that has immersed visitors in a digital art experience with the name "Heliophilia".

"This year we have arrived at Hábitat with a very interesting proposal. Through design and innovation we are able to create environments that connect with our emotions. Designers and industry must go hand in hand to create unique experiences in physical or dreamlike spaces. Thinking about solving the challenges of this new hybrid life is a great motivation for our team, and doing so with our values with people and the planet at the centre, our purpose as a brand". Soledad Berbegal, Director and Director of Corporate Reputation at Actiu.

Hábitat has also served as a stage to present new products, such as the new Bee chair, a personal project and design by Actiu's founder, Vicente Berbegal, and the new Tubbe modular shelving.

As well as to make the international presentation of the new Fluit chair, Actiu's 100% sustainable Mediterranean chair, created entirely from recycled materials. It has also served us to show in first person our new hospitality document, where you can see in detail our new vision on the equipment for these hybrid spaces, focused on offering differential experiences.

Fluit was launched in a massive event in the Gothic cloister of the Centre del Carme de Cultura Contemporània (CCCC), under the name 'Endless Mediterranean; sustainability and design' by Actiu, with the participation of Matilde Sessolo and Christian Gori, from Archirivolto Design.

"It was essential that it should not follow a fashion, but should be forward-looking and timeless, capable of fitting into all kinds of hybrid spaces, from the home to the office, including restaurant spaces and conference rooms", according to Sessolo. Its minimalist aesthetic means that the piece can fit into all kinds of architectural spaces, thanks to the gentle sinuosity of its curves.

Matilde Sessolo was also one of the speakers at the round table "Contract design capable of transmitting emotions" moderated by Ariadna Rousaud, Editor-in-Chief of Diariodesign, and in which the designers Isern Serra, Cutu Mazuelos of Stone Design and Gemma Alfaro of Alfaro - Manrique Atelier also took the floor.

The talk focused on design and its capacity to shape spaces according to new lifestyles, applying technological innovation to transmit emotions, promote sustainability and, above all, take care of people in a changing environment.

Thus, Gema Alfaro pointed out that the changes experienced in recent years in the hospitality sector have enriched the entire design process and have made it possible to create spaces that are "richer and more interesting" in terms of flexibility but also in terms of sustainability. Cutu Mazuelos, for his part, insisted that "nobody wants to lock themselves in a hotel room to work looking at the wall. We want to work with people, socialise and collaborate to develop as professionals. That is why common areas are the key to this type of establishment. Meanwhile, Isern Serra pointed out that workspaces "are going from being mere production centres to environments for feeling calm and serene, with wellbeing, with the sensation of feeling at home". "We have to think beyond the usual limits".

Actiu has also collaborated in the presentation of the book "Office as a tribe" by Mexican architect Juan Carlos Baumgartner, a work that reflects the importance of space as a generator of new experiences, wellbeing and a feeling of belonging and teamwork - which he calls 'tribe'.

The architect said during the presentation, which took place on Thursday at Habitat: "We are cavemen with sophisticated tools, we have to unite technology with the most human conditions".

The World Design Capital Valencia 2022 Forum, in which Baumgartner spoke, was also the meeting point for Women in Office Design (WOD) and its round table "Hybrid life and work models" in which women professionals in the field of space design exchanged points of view on the links between people and their professional environments.

The talk, moderated by Marcel Benedito of Distrito Oficina, featured Clara del Portillo, designer and partner of Yonoh Studio, Laura Ros, architect and partner of Made Studio and Anna Boscà, director of the Health and Cultural Architecture department of Ramón Esteve.

They all agreed on the importance of humanising products and spaces to promote creativity and comfort, regardless of the use given to a specific environment

Actiu's furniture has also served as a backdrop for other events parallel to Hábitat. Thus, in the Ágora in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, on Monday the Fluit chairs welcomed those attending the presentation of the first podcast of "La Gran D", the first podcast on design by Podium Podcast that brings together great creators such as Paola Antonelli and Javier Mariscal. This project, promoted by the PRISA group, is presented by the journalist Anatxu Zabalbeascoa.

Actiu has also equipped the stand of the Association of Interior Designers of the Valencia Region (CDICV) and the outdoor area of the "Interior Design and Health" congress, in collaboration with Teika and Zumex to create a collaborative and social space for wellbeing and comfort. Speakers at the event included palaeontologist Juan Luis Arsuaga, psychiatrist Luis Rojas Marcos and architect Benedetta Tagliabue.
